Welcome to the 22nd
We at the Comedy Festival
have paid attention during
the recent election campaign and learnt what
makes a winner. Most comics already had
material including the clearly popular words
Working Families, Education Revolution, Kyoto
and Sorry. Some have gone that extra mile and
changed their names to Maxine. We reckon
we've got a sure fire hit on our hands. Please
buy lots of tickets and prove us right. We
promise to show you a good time.
Victoria is known for
putting on great festivals
and events, and the
Comedy Festival out-laughs them all.
One of the top three comedy festivals in the
world, the Melbourne International Comedy
Festival is a perennial favourite of both
comedians and audiences -- from this city
More than 480,000 people attended the
2007 festival, including many interstate
and international visitors, making it one
of Australia's most popular and accessible
This year's festival once again presents a
huge program of comedy featuring some
of the world's funniest people -- from big
international names to some of Australia's
best loved personalities to rising stars.
Beyond the belly laughs, the Melbourne
International Comedy Festival makes a serious
contribution to our State -- it attracts tourists,
raises our international profile and generates
significant economic benefits.
Best of all it gives us the opportunity to get
together and have a healthy laugh at ourselves
and the world around us.
The Victorian Government is once again proud
to support the Melbourne International
Comedy Festival. Enjoy!

OF THE ARTS
Autumn in Melbourne
has become synonymous
with comedy. For more
than two decades, the
Melbourne International Comedy Festival has
transformed our city into the funniest place
on earth for four weeks each year.
The festival's laughs continue to resonate
throughout the year, right across Victoria
and beyond. This year the hugely successful
Comedy Festival Roadshow will bring some of
the best festival artists to audiences in more
than 20 regional centres across the State and
many more destinations around the country.
The Victorian Government is committed to
providing top notch cultural experiences, like
those offered by the Melbourne International
Comedy Festival, to all Victorians.
We are also committed to supporting and
developing new and emerging artists. In the
comedy world, the Melbourne International
Comedy Festival leads the way with highly
regarded artist development programs such
as Raw Comedy, Class Clowns and Deadly
Through these initiatives outstanding new
performers are already in pre-season and
you'll have a chance to spot Australia's rising
comedy stars at the grand finals during the

The centre of the action,
for three and a half weeks Melbourne Town
Hall will be transformed into destination
comedy. Beneath grand old ceilings three
levels of stages, bars and cinemas pop up
for a laugh. Even the Council chamber is
not spared the best stand-up, theatre and
musical comedy on Earth!
From Vodafone Arena to Trades Hall, the
Melbourne International Comedy Festival
makes the most of our city's incredible
performance spaces and we continue a
proud tradition of making the laughs
accessible to all people with plenty of free
fun at favourites such as the Big Laugh Out.
Attracting the funniest of Australian and
international comedians, the 2008 Melbourne
International Comedy Festival will have you
laughing all night long so make the most of
the city's restaurants, bars and clubs.
No joke, the City of Melbourne is once again
proud to be the home of hilarity, the centre
of silly, and Australia's laugh-out-loud capital.
Have a giggle on us!
