Welcome to the 27th Melbourne International
A world of live comedy is dropping into our
neighbourhood right when we need it. We may be in the
longest election campaign ever but we have the largest
Melbourne Comedy Festival ever, offering distractions,
diversions and opinions on everything. The Festival
provides an unparalleled opportunity to have your world-
view refreshed by people whose mission is to make
you smile. We promise satisfying discoveries and the
happiness only a truly funny moment inspires.
THE PREMIER AND
Have you heard the one about the man who walked into a
bar? The chicken that crossed the road? How about the one
about the Australian comedy event that became one of the
top three comedy festivals in the world? There’s no joke
here, this is the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
Melbourne is Australia’s home of comedy, and the
Melbourne International Comedy Festival anchors this
reputation not just through this jam-packed festival, but
all year round; through touring the nation – and beyond
– and through hosting workshops and competitions that
uncover the next generation of comedy stars. Last year
RAW Comedy heats were even held in India as part of
a ground-breaking tour, an outstanding example of the
international reach and impact of the festival.
This year’s event will be the biggest yet, so whether
you’re a fan of satire, sketch, slapstick or anything in
between, get ready for some serious funny business!

THE LORD MAYOR
Autumn in Melbourne is filled with laughter, irreverence
and cheeky fun thanks to the Melbourne International
This year the Comedy Festival will feature 485 shows.
It is Australia’s largest ticketed cultural event and attracts
more than 600,000 people into the city.
Free family events in the City Square, Federation Square
and the streets of Melbourne will again provide the very
best international and local acts for the family over the
Easter and school holiday break.
The City of Melbourne is particularly proud to be a part
of a film initiative that will run online and in Federation
Square to encourage bike safety and sustainable
transport during the festival.
I encourage you to take in a show or three and enjoy the
very best of the 2013 Melbourne International Comedy
THE CHAIR OF THE
Just when we thought it couldn’t get any bigger.
Last year, over 600,000 people filled Melbourne’s streets
and venues as part of the Melbourne International
Our Roadshow then entertained over 60 towns nationally,
followed by sell-out seasons in Singapore and Hong Kong
and our very first venture to India as part of OzFest.
But this year our 27th Festival features more shows, artists
and events than ever before. And we couldn’t be prouder.
Check out the free family program at City Square and
Federation Square. See a show, and then another. Head
to the Festival Club where you never know what might
happen. Or just soak up the atmosphere outside the
Melbourne Town Hall.
A special thanks for the continued support to our
sponsors and Government partners, in particular the
State Government, Arts Victoria and City of Melbourne,
whose support is vital to the continuing success of the
